Review: A Cat's Day by Genie Liang

It isn't often that I find a comic book that speaks to my yoga life as much A Cat's Day by Genie Liang did. There are tons and tons of comics over the years that are influenced by Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, et al. Some are direct stories about those cultures like the new young version of Ms. Marvel with lead character Kamala Khan who is a Jersey girl and Muslim; or A. David Lewis' Kismet with a Muslim superhero. So, it's not really a surprise that a graphic novel has a complete story about being in the present moment.

A Cat's Day is essentially like that old reminder:

When you're on your deathbed, will you wish you had had more time for work or for leisure/family/love?

I'm embarrassed to say that I got this copy from Shortbox UK to review last October (2022!) but just got to it in April 2023.

I think everyone needs to be reminded of the lessons that protagonist Sam learns in A Cat's Day by @genniieeee because Sam learns these lessons the HARD WAY. It's truly for all ages - young readers, middle-aged, old; for students, workers and especially BOSSES.

Not only did I find the lesson of accepting time and honoring being "off the clock" a noteworthy reminder, but there are also lots of cats in it. The family even celebrates Tangy the cat's birthday like we do for Gus and Ollie!
